I’ve had enough, at 21 x 2 +1 and a day, I have had enough of being a Mother to boys who are just about too ill to go to school. Just in case you haven’t done the maths, yesterday was my 43rd birthday. I feel old as if I should give up all hopes of having any energy and perhaps consider investing in some waist high knickers, and that’s without the boys.
So what has happened today, apart from it being a continuous culmination of yesterday? Older boy has broken the computer desk which means that I no longer have a shelf to put my red velvet cake on (unless you count my tummy), the boys have fought over the Xbox, resulting in yet another ban. Older boy followed on from this by turning all the furniture in the lounge upside down in fury, luckily he stopped at the TV. One of the boys has this morning left a lovely poo for me in the toilet (I’m not sure who the culprit is here) and older boy ate three mince pies before his lunch. Now I am being nagged to take their lunch trays, but I am refusing, I am not a slave. Repeat after me, I am not a slave.
Unfortunately the boys started being ill on my birthday eve, meaning that I had the unexpected pleasure of spending my special day stuck at home with all them. This was additionally necessitated by me having to wait in for a boiler engineer, who predictably didn’t turn up. You might read this and think, how lovely to spend a quiet day at home on your birthday with your boys, it’s the perfect excuse not to work. I did indeed hope for a quiet chilled day and I did manage to watch some old soaps on youtube but that’s where the quietness ended. Despite being under the weather, the boys continued to fight in their usual way and didn’t seem to be concerned that it was my birthday. They did agree to sit at the table with me to eat a Chinese take away, but older boy wolfed down as little as he could before getting back to his Xbox game. Luckily I didn’t have high expectations by this point so chose not to take it personally.
What can I say, tomorrow’s a new day. Hopefully the boys will be well enough to go back to school.
